Dezeen Showroom: Oell is a versatile and sculptural side table with a chunky base and an overhanging top, created by French designer Jean-Marie Massaud for Italian brand Arper.

Intended for use next to an armchair or a sofa in both residential and commercial environments, Oell can be used for everything from working and reading to dining.

Massaud's design comprises a cylindrical base that emulates a weighted piece of stone, from which a slender offset leg extends up to support a cantilevered top.

The table is available in two heights and with two sizes of tabletop and a range of colour finishes to ensure it can be used in any space. All parts can be easily disassembled.

"Oell is quiet but full of character, always at the ready and never in the way," said Arper.

"The aspiration was to develop a design that’s very simple but at the same time suitable for many different settings. It's meant to be a complement that assists in all different postures, moments, and situations."
