Born on a British Army base in Holywood, a suburb of Belfast, Ireland, Englishman Clive Standen took a circuitous route through numerous British and Canadian period dramas, “Vikings,” “Camelot” and “Robin Hood” among them, and a brief dip into Bollywood before he officially landed in Hollywood with the lead role in the action-thriller series “Taken.”

Over the summer of 2019, after “Taken” came to an end and before the usually bearded actor appeared in the lead role on the NBC drama “Council of Dads,” the actor, skilled fencer and Muay Thai boxing expert sunk some roots in the Los Angeles with the $2.45 million purchase of a hillside home in Studio City that he bought from “Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale.

“Council of Dads” was canceled the following year and now, Standen has put his showbiz-pedigreed L.A. home back on the market at a notch below $2.6 million. Built along a narrow, winding road in 2004 and secured behind a stucco wall and wooden gates, the red tile-roofed residence offers four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms in about 3,900 square feet. The listing is jointly held by Nader Naderi at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties and Stefan Pommepuy at The Agency.

Highlights of the multistory home include a double-height combination living and dining room with honey-toned wood floors and a white-washed brick fireplace, a positively Escher-esque series of staircases, both inside and out, and an ultra-private penthouse-level primary suite that’s complete with huge walk-in closet, glammed-out marble bath, and pretty canyon view. The three other bedrooms, along with the family room, are tucked down on the home’s lower levels.

Though cleaved to a precipitous slope, the home manages to squeeze in several outdoor spaces for al fresco relaxing and entertaining. In addition to a walled courtyard garden at the front and several balconies at the back, there’s a small, crystalline swimming pool and tent-style cabana set on a faux-grassed elevated terrace below the house.

The quirkiness of the home’s multistory layout is matched with an eclectic décor that incorporates a colorful and eye-catching collection of contemporary artworks, an air hockey table in place of a dining table, part of an airplane wing repurposed as a desk, and a gold-toned chair in the shape of a giant hand. Several motifs emerge: Britain’s Union Jack, Coca-Cola collectibles, and lips. That’s right, lips. In addition to the cheeky, cherry-red lip-shaped seatbacks around the kitchen’s dining table, there’s a neon lip out line on the wall and, behind the couch in the family room, a huge, lip-shaped console.

It’s unclear if Standen, slated to appear in the upcoming film “Possessions,” intends to stay in the States or return to the U.K. with his wife and children. Hale, on the other hand did not move far; she picked up another Studio City home in early 2019 for close to $3 million.
